I came by via vriad_lee's journal. I look at some of your posts in a reader. Hope you can understand my comment as it is in English!
I have a curious reaction to these photos. I used to be a very heavy smoker (80 a day! Really!)although I stopped altogether many years ago, and my parents were also both smokers. My husband smokes, but not in the house. The culture in the United Kingdom is such that it's no longer really an acceptable thing to do, and I find now that when I see photos of smokers that it's a shock!
That aside, it reminds me of something my mother said to me when I first started smoking. She said - "I don't like that you're smoking but it's nice that we can share something now." I felt very sad about that, that it was only smoking that she felt we could share.
the humor is, neither Grisha (my brother who smokes here with me) nor I smoke. the photos are a joke and that is why I put them here and why rydeer who shoot them colled the session Oh, so 80s.
in fact, Russia smokes less and less (i.e. only one of my friends and 2 of my extended family smoke). lots of my collegues smoke, true, but that is not ok anymore and everyone of them is constantly "quitting".
the story of your mom is very touching and reminds me of the problems I'm still having with my father. hope they gonna be resolved one day before it's too late
