we have a popular (in my generation) children's book here - "Chook and Gek", by Arkady Gaidar (G in Gek sounds like G in Gaidar). the book tells a story about two young tween brothers. little Chook had a sister who was his spitting image and was supposed to be a brother until one day she proved otherwise ;). so, they were Chook and Gek brothers until Gek turned out to be a sister and was renamed Chookchah (a Chukchi). the word itself (Chook) means absolutely nothing in Russian.
